The Connecticut Humane Society is looking for a Medical Director to work with our Director of Operations on oversight of the organization's medical program.  We are looking for a senior veterinarian with experience in shelter medicine, herd health management, and clinic oversight as well as prior experience with high volume spay/neuter.  This position would be responsible for the daily oversight of the clinic and shelter medical components working to enforce current and create new policies and standards of care, as well as managing and mentoring the other veterinarians on staff.  This position will also be responsible for performing spay/neuter and soft tissue surgeries including but not limited to tumor removal, exploratory cystotomy or cherry eye removal and or repair, and amputations.

This full-time position with benefits is ideal for someone with at least five to ten years working in a shelter or clinic setting and has a demonstrated record as a surgeon.  Must have at least three years' supervision of other veterinarians.  Licensure as a CT Veterinarian required or ability to obtain CT licensure before starting work. This candidate must also possess strong verbal and written communication skills. We are looking for a client oriented individual who can work well with the public and the other veterinarians.

Schedule: Monday through Friday with a rotating weekend day.

Requirements

  • Education: DVM or VMD
  • Experience: Five to ten years experience working in a clinic/shelter setting.  At least 3 years experience with supervision of other veterinarians.  License as a CT veterinarian or ability to obtain CT license prior to start.
  • Skills: Strong surgical, diagnostic and strong verbal and written  communicatios skills.  Strong knowledge of animal handling and experience preferred.
  • Technology: Proficiency in computers and on-line medical records
